The Atomic Golf project, a prominent installation in the heart of Las Vegas, is a testament to the collaborative efforts and innovation required to bring ambitious ideas to life. Here's a detailed look at how this project evolved from initial conversations to the stunning final installation.
The journey of the Atomic project began in January 2022, when GBA was recommended for a major Las Vegas glass floor installation. This initial contact was the spark that set the project in motion.
By February, we began diving deeper into the technical specifics, posing questions about our GlassWalk™ Glass Floor System. This inquiry marked the beginning of a detailed exchange of ideas and technical information. Just a few days later, we received confidential concept drawings, giving us a clearer picture of the project's desired look and layout. By early March, we proposed incorporating our 3-Ply grid system which was quickly integrated into the design.
As the project progressed, we were introduced to Jerry Zemanski from Jones Sign Company, a key partner in the project.
The Atomic Range installation became public knowledge in August, thanks to several featured news articles and stories. The project was generating buzz, and the next critical step came in February 2023, when Jones Sign scheduled a design meeting with LG and our team. It became clear that the initial design approach, which included our grid system, would not work due to excessive depth and complexity.
The GBA team, in collaboration with Jones Sign, decided to redesign the system. The following day, we issued a second rough sketch with a new design. This updated concept featured a custom steel perimeter support member designed to accommodate both glass and LED panels, moving away from the previously proposed aluminum system.
The revised design was met with enthusiasm. On April 6, Jones Sign and Atomic Golf leadership, including Principal Investor Babck Mosteghasi, reviewed the glass sample provided by GBA. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive; Mosteghasi was thrilled with the look and quality. With approval in hand, we moved into the final stages of the project. The execution of the work was planned in two phases.
Our first mobilization involved setting bearing angles to support the glass, which needed to be precisely aligned with the finished floor height. Following this, Jones Sign installed their power and LED panels onto our steel structure. After a few days of troubleshooting, we were called back to complete the installation. We set the glass, finished glazing, and confirmed that everything was functioning as intended when Jones Sign powered up the system.
The successful execution of the Atomic Golf project stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and problem-solving capabilities of all involved. From the initial concept to the final installation, each stage of the project required meticulous planning, creative problem-solving, and seamless coordination between teams. The result is a striking installation that not only meets but exceeds expectations, showcasing the power of innovative design and teamwork.
The Atomic Golf project is now a celebrated landmark in Las Vegas, reflecting the hard work and dedication of everyone who played a role in bringing this vision to life.
"Work was done very professionally with outstanding quality. Your crews were very attentive to detail & made sure to protect surrounding work surfaces from damage. They communicated well with my field team to ensure we & the Owner were satisfied with the end product. Job well done." - Russell Stafford, RNGD A Palmisano Company
"We were lucky to have GBA on our project at Lutheran East High School. From the front office to the field supervision and crew were very knowledgeable with our project. Took extra care not to damage the building during demolition. The quality of materials and their labor force was top-notch." — Peter Powell, Carey Construction Group
"We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the glass block at Lutheran East High School and have received many compliments on the design. The glass block windows give the building a nice “pop” of color on the exterior each side of the gym and helped to maintain the identity of the school." - Rick Jozity, Meraki Architects, L.L.C
"I saw the final glass block wall in person and it really is a work of art. We are so grateful for your team’s hard work on this." – Crister Cantrell, Gensler
"As the Senior Project Manager for the general contracting company responsible for completing all aspects of the historical restoration, structural rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse modifications to the derelict Triboro tuberculosis hospital, one of the most difficult challenges was finding capable and qualified subcontractors for the key restoration trades that are both committed to quality construction and respectful of the historical restoration process. I am lucky enough to have worked with GBA on previous successful projects and was glad to bring them into this project. GBA provided the essential expertise and quality craftsmanship that this project needed and was a reliable partner helping us convert the Triboro Tuberculosis Hospital into the T Building Residence." – Senior Project Manager, Bill Harwood for the GC, Mega Contracting
"On behalf of me, my project manager and CGC; I would like to reach out to applaud the quality and workmanship of the crew sent out to do the glass block wall outside of the theater here in Hudson. Dan and Nate went above and beyond to keep their work area organized and clean, even protected our finish trim and VWC in the mixing area with plastic. If only more companies active on site would follow in your companies steps these buildings would be cut and dry and run very efficiently. Thank you! - Jake M. Behler, Cameron General Contractors
